Treating a Burn at Home There are many different things that you can do to treat a burn naturally, and many of them can be done with things that are easily found around the home. Before you do any kind of home treatment, however, is important for you to make sure that the burn your treating is not too severe and does not require medical attention. If the burn has large blisters or if the skin looks charred in the area of the burn, it is not a simple first-degree burn and you should make sure to have it checked out. If the area is simply red and burning, however, it is possible treated at home. The first thing that you should do is to run cool water over the area and to allow it to lower in temperature. Resist the urge to make the water extremely cold or to use ice, as this can further complicate matters. Keep in mind, the skin that has burned may look intact but it is actually dead skin, and the body is going to need to replace it. If you put ice on the area, you may cause frostbite because the skin is already in a delicate condition. If you want to put something on the burn to help the healing process, you need to think about maintaining the pH balance, as this is going to make a large difference in the overall healing process. For example, baking soda is an excellent choice for putting on a burn, and you can make a paste of baking soda and water. You can also put apple cider vinegar on the area, just as long as there is no broken skin which would cause an uncomfortable situation, to say the least. For long-term healing, you may want to put some honey on the burn and cover it with some clean gauze. It is important for you to use natural, unheated and unfiltered honey as this has live enzymes that can benefit the burned area. From there, you can use additional natural treatments, such as the application and re-application of aloe vera gel or perhaps using something such as lavender oil, or broken vitamin E capsules. All of these things have remarkable capabilities when it comes to healing the burn, and you would be surprised with how much healing you will see once you apply these things to the area.
